Peatland Protection
Peatland Protection
The drainage of peat bogs led to the large-scale loss of these climate experts. In the 17th century, for example, the Scheibenmoor was drained to create a water source for the districts of Lupitsch and Lichtersberg. The drainage systems established at that time are still clearly visible from the air today.
Water storage, CO2 sequestration, flood protection, and significant biodiversity — these special properties make the restoration of these valuable ecosystems an important contribution to climate protection.
